MIS has MIS has effectively finalized the execution of the project titled “Emergency shelter and Non-Food Items for conflict-affected returnees in Guba Woreda, Metekel zone, Benishangul Gumuz Region.”finalized the execution of the project titled “Emergency shelter and Non-Food Items for conflict-affected returnees in Guba Woreda, Metekel zone, Benishangul Gumuz Region.” The project was funded by USAID through IOM/RRF. MIS worked closely with key stakeholders, DRM and other local government officials, community representatives, and the community at large to carry out the project’s activities over the course of the project’s existence. Cooperation with implementing partners that have a local operational presence has allowed for tight coordination of activities. The aim of the project was to provide emergency shelter kits(1000 HH) and Non‐Food Items (NFIs) kits(1500HH) to address the immediate needs of conflict-affected returnee households in Benishangul Gumuz Region, Metekel zone, Guba Woreda, Aycid and Almehal cluster. The project period was from July 1-October 31/2023

The main challenge that this project faced during the implementation was security issue. Entry into the targeted woreda was difficult from the very beginning of the project since it was not possible to go freely without a military convoy because of the fragile security situation. However, MIS staff members were allowed to travel without a military convoy after consulting OCHA humanitarian access monitoring team and IOM. The Amhara region’s security situation prohibited MIS from timely delivery of the in-kind ESNFI kits to the project site. MIS had to spend additional cost to cover the transportation cost of the item in addition to the delay since MIS used alternative route to mobilize the items . The unstable security situation made it difficult to access certain Kebles under Almehal cluster in Guba woreda.Although there were many challenges, overall it was a successful project where predetermined goals of the project were attained more than expected.
